Virtual Hot Fudge Run & Walk
2020 was a normal year for the Burton Kiwanis Hot Fudge Race and that meant when the pandemic hit our community, Burton Kiwanis was able to step up and provide help to our schools with additional food distribution funds. However, the decision to host the 2021 Hot Fudge Race has been much harder.
For the past few months, we have worked to make the best decision possible. At one point, we were excited that the Bentley School board gave us permission to host a live “social distanced,” outdoor-only event. However, the City of Burton is not as comfortable with public gatherings at this time. So, then the thought is that we should move forward with a possible virtual race, but we also did not want to put pressure on our sponsors during this pandemic. So, we decided that we would personally talk with a few of our sponsors before making a final decision to host a virtual event.
Let me tell you that WE LOVE OUR SPONSORS AND OUR SPONSORS LOVE OUR COMMUNITY! Our first stop was with our title sponsor Volunteers of America. They were overjoyed that we didn’t cancel our annual run/walk and a virtual event is a great option for them. Then, we found out that most of our other sponsors felt the same way! Karen’s Carpet, Genesee Ceramic Tile, Crystal Fieldhouse, Captain’s Quarters, Family Care Plus Physical Therapy, Dairy Queen, Tina Conley, Vaughn Smith, Amber Shaw Re/Max Eclipse, Batteries Plus and we still have more people to talk to.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support! We look forward to seeing you in person soon.
